Hi all

My bug is dropping an increasing amount of oil and after getting Brian (Autofix) to have a look he confirmed it's leaking from most places

So as I understand things there are a few options but I wanted to see what others would do? The current engine on my GT bug is AD, 1.6 and has 67k but I have no idea when it was last worked on etc

* Top end rebuild kit
* New Reconditioned Engine?
* New engine that someone has sitting around that they bought (One of the last Mexico one) and decides to sell.
* Other options?

It a common fault with VW engines, oil leaks. Strip it down and rebuild it .A lot cheaper.Chances are that it will push rod tubes if it is not leaking from crankcase. You can get telescopic push rod tubes that can be changed with out taking heads off but my advice would be to do a complete engine rebuild . If the engine is running OK and not burning oil you can rebuild it with the existing parts but fit new bearings,a set of ring and a new oil pump.Its not as hard a job as you think. Run it over the summer and do it over the winter months and keep yourself occupied.

I think it is also dropping oil from the crankcase but Bry has kindly said he will take a look when he isn't too busy so will see what he recommends too.

I would love to do the work myself over the winter as you say but a combination of the car being on the drive, having 3 kids under 6 and juggling my own work means I doubt I will get the chance to do that
