Hey guys&girls the story of my camper!
Basically i bought a wrotten camper type 2 baywindow shell.
I knew this old guy in eastlondon who had a scrap yard. The days when you had cars stacked ontop of one another. God rest hes soul he passed away. Then hes son couldnt afford to run the yard so i bought my camper type 2 rolling shell with no id. The rear section was all rotten with other various sections.so finally after 10 years of odd grafting here and there it is now nearly complete and like braaaaand new lol. I called dvla to book an appointment and after speaking to a fellow worker of dvla he said my camper would be put on a Q reg NO WAY so basically i need a id for mine. Id buy a complete shell if anyone has one. Thank you..... Ps keep dubbin!!!

If the chassis number is there you should be able to get an age related plate. My understanding is that Q plates are only issued to kit cars. If you havent got chassis number thats a different matter.Ive got a couple of friends with buggies and trikes and and they have had no problems other than the fact they are registered as Beetles

Cheers budd. The rear was rotten i have only a vin tag which is behind the seat?? So im a bit puzzled what to do.

The VIN plate should give you all the info you need to reg your type 2. Hope the following info helps you. If you still have problems get in touch with Justcampers and they can get you the VW Birth Certificate of your vehicle.I cant remember what the cost is but they will tell you. Once you have got that send it to the DVLA.

The chassis number, or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), can be found stamped on an aluminum plate either behind the front seats or in the engine bay. An example chassis number might read: 229 375 250 (This number belongs to a Type 2 Microbus made in 1969)...

The first digit of the chassis number, '2', indicates that this is a Type 2.

The second digit of the VIN, again '2', denotes the vehicle model. Which model do you have?

1. Panel van
2. Microbus 7/9 seater
3. Kombi i.e. van with windows
4. Deluxe microbus 7/9 seater
6. Pickup
7. Crewcab

The third digit of the chassis number represents the year

1968 218 000 001 > 218202251
1969 219 000 001 > 219300000
1970 210 2000 001 > 2102300000
1971 211 2000 001 > 2102300000
1972 212 2000 001 > 2102300000
1973 213 2000 001 > 2102300000
1974 214 2000 001 > 2102300000

If I remember correctly when you apply to DVLA you will also need a valid MOT to get reg . The testing centre will do that using vehlce chassis number from VIN plate. Let's know how you get on.
