what do people think of these? scroll down to bay spindles

http://www.wagenswest.com/parts.html

work out about 220quid

looking for mild lowering which keeps ride quality. these seem easiest method apart from red9design kit which seem a bit contentious (coilovers)

OOH!!!! They look cool!

We're wanting to lower our Bay eventually and we were gonna go with the bluebird lowering adjusters welded in the front beam - worked out at about £120 with them fitting the adjuster but there was the postage to go on top of that. Plus the ride quality would be effected.

Dropped spindles are the best way to lower a Bug without losing ride quality so I can only imagine it's even better on a Bay (you're not changing the suspension travel at all!) Let me know if you're gonna order some and we'll see if we can get some sort of shipping discount if we order two sets at the same time.

Just looked on the Bluebird customs website http://www.bluebird-type2.co.uk. (took bloody ages to find - it's not on Google)
It's £180 for them to install folksy adjusters in your front beam - the price includes carriage and VAT. I'd rather pay the extra £40 and go for dropped spindles.

BTW Scott, I've found a page on Danbury elevating roofs:
http://www.campershop.co.uk/danbury.htm
Looks like Danbury pop-tops vary considerably in size and colour. This pic is most like the inside of ours:

The black strap (it's white on ours) going around the middle of the canvas you kinda pull it in as you lower the pop-top to stop the canvas getting trapped in the sides (takes a bit of skill!) The white pole on the left clips in place to hold the roof up steady (there's two at each end) The white and silver pole on the right is telescopic and has a spring inside it which makes putting up the pop-top easier.

I think Nic knows people in America so could possible get them to mail them to us as a "gift"
Lowering is proberbly gonna be the last thing that gets done to our bay though.

No hurry on the pop-top - it's proberbly gonna be a while before we remove it. I'll try and clean the fibreglass up before you come over. The canvas is nice and clean though. I noticed the seal is about £25 from that website.

Just thought I'd post this up for reference:

I've been doing some research on lowering vans in general and it appears that lowering the rear end is pretty straightforward.

If you rotate the torsion bar by one inner spline, it lowers the rear suspension by 6 cm or 2.36 inches - bear in mind we'll have a 2.5 inch drop on the front with those dropped spindles so that's only a 5mm difference and I'm sure the weight of the engine, batteries, fuel tank when full etc will proberbly compensate.

You can get it spot on 2.5 inches by rotating the inner 2 splines and the outer in the opposite direction by 1 spline but it hardly seems worth it - the outer splines are usually siezed on anyway.
