heres my current fleet.
the daily, a '95 W124 E220 coupe.

one of my weekend toys, 5 whole litres of joyous driving pleasure.
an '88 W126 500sec.
to the folks who know/can remember me this isnt the same one as i had before.
same colour, better spec and way less miles.
languishing in my garge is the low merc.
an '84 W123 230E.
now to business, the second of my weekend toys.
2 litres of type 4 power.
had it a year now and its been nothing but grief, engine wise.
oil peeing from both rocker gaskets.
stripped them down to have a look and found they had been siliconed on to stop the leaks.
so i popped them back on so i could do a compression test.
all 4 were less than 20psi.not good.
all set to fork out for some new barrels and stuff i decided to check the simple stuff first, so i broke out the haynes book of untruth and looked to see how to adjust the clearances for the hydraulic valves.
did this and it sorted the problem, so on with a new set of rocker gaskets, and put my wallet away.
used it a few times over the course of the next few months but still it wasnt running right.
time to look at the carbs, yep, theyre carbs.
i didnt feel brave enough to twiddle so i left it with a mate, who duly sorted it by sorting the timing out and then setting the nasty solex's up.
its 90% there now, but its been bodged to run without the idle control, so when its cold its a pig till its warmed up.
this will be addressed in due course.
il do another post when i get time on what i did with the interior.
thanks for reading.
